Indeed they do, Archdruid. If this so-called "General Discussion" were one of my generals, I would have him eaten by hungry Szalls. I'd go for unleashing the disease-ridden Vazhags myself.

I'd go for unleashing the disease-ridden Vazhags myself. I say "tomato," you say "disease-ridden Vazhags." Hmm, I wonder whether Vazhags are fruit or vegetable... Anyway, to each his own. You've got your man-vermin, I've got my weak and cowardly breed of Giaks.

I've read Tolkein as well. And i'd have to say that Tolkein isn't the best writer i've ever seen, (that being that he wasn't a professional writer according to him) But i'd have to profess that I fell in love with his world. He was able to create Middle Earth so vividly that i could picture it as real in my mind. Every tiny little corner. It's interesting that you pointed this out. Two other authors that I consider leaders in their genre (namely Asimov and King) have pointed out the same thing. All three of them break countless numbers of accepted 'rules' of professional authors. Tolkien's particular crime is that he spends an inordinate amount of time on setting and environment. Strangely enough, that attention to detail is what sets his work apart. Reading his descriptions give you a sense of being there. His world is so complete that it's easy to fall into it. In other words, it's easy to forget that you're reading. That is the mark of a truly great writer. P.S. Sorry for the late post on this thread. I generally only read a couple threads a day so I just got to this one.

I always looked at the Sommlending/Durenese as the mirror image of the Rohirrim/Gondorians.
The Durenese are the dark-haired in this case, whereas it seems the Rohirrim are now the centerpiece 'race' of Lone Wolf, in the form of the Sommlending. The Rohirrim needed to see the beacon to come to Gondor's aid(but wait, wasn't there some token that was the symbol that Gondor needed Rohan's aid?) and in the book the Durenese need to see the Seal of Hammerdal to come to the aid of Sommerlund.
I've also looked at the Sommerswerd as an inverse of the One Ring. Lone Wolf dare not use the Sommerswerd near Helgedad, while Frodo signals Sauron to his presence(and that of the Ring) when he puts it on at the Cracks of Doom.
Orcs, Giaks, same thing..well not quite.but not that far off.
And like the forces of Saruman, the Darklords seem to have access to technology that most would consider "out of place"in Middle Earth or Magnamund.

I think we talked about the similiar aspects between the LotR and Lone Wolf in another thread, but I'm too lazy to find it now...

Orcs, Giaks, same thing..well not quite.but not that far off. Indeed. Giaks riding Doomwolves and Orcs riding Wargs... the similarity is striking, in fact it's a straight copy... but, Dever's not the first and won't be the last to take some inspiration from Tolkein... heck it's almost obligatory.

"You fight like a milkmaid." "How appropriate. You fight like a cow."
Monkey Island rocks!
