I also noticed this while watching a preview for the came that just came out.
Is it spelled the same?

Helghast has shown up in quite a few video games, mostly space ones, where a fighter or fleet is named after them. I contacted game designers in a few instances and they confirmed that the name did indeed come from lone wolf. Also, the word lone wolf itself is now a common phrase refering to a man who fights alone against the odds. Besides being used in common vernacular, it also takes a spot in both Rouge Spear and Resident Evil: Outbreak.

There was a movie quite a few years back--I think it starred Chuck Norris--called Lone Wolf McQuade. I'm pretty sure the movie came out before Joe's books, which gives me the impression that the term has been around for quite some time. @ Zipp: Love the avatar. I especially enjoyed whacking him with the Omnislash at the end of FF VII!

Hey thanks, I've been an FF fan since FF4, and I have to say, Sephiroth still holds the title of coolest FF villain. Although Zeremous comes close, cause he's like pure evil.
Not too many pics floating around of Zeremous, though. I mean, he's kinda a floating black signifier of doom and suffering. Hard to draw, those.

Wow, since IV? That's a long time! Zeromus was cool too, but Sephiroth was definitely the most-hateable (is that a word?) after the events at the end of disc 1, which I will not divulge in case people here have not played it yet! I've actually been playing since the original came out, 1990 in the U.S. I think. I have most of them through #10, I think.

It's good to see some other people remember the early ones. Replaying 6 right now with my girlfriend.
Hopefully 12 will be good.

Lone Wolf McQuade starring Chuck Norris (so you just know it's going to be good) came out in 1983: uk.imdb.com/title/tt0085862/However, there is also the 1972 film Kozure Ôkami: Kowokashi udekashi tsukamatsuru (released in the west as 'Lone Wolf and Cub' or 'Babycart Assassin'; which in turn was based upon a very successful manga [Japanese graphic novel] called Lone Wolf and Cub): uk.imdb.com/title/tt0068815/And there's also the 1926 film The Lone Wolf Returns: uk.imdb.com/title/tt0017077/So I don't think we really need to worry too much about Joe plagiarizing anyone!

Then the second and the third (4th and 6th, respectively). I never actually finished the 3rd, I always lost interest at some point of the game, when you had to either raise your levels or trying to find that item that 1% of the Tyrannosaurus had (can't remember exactly). Anyways, I also played the 2nd and the 5th one on emulators which my brother downloaded a few years back. I never played VII or the ones after that, and I don't think I ever will. I've pretty much lost interest in video games in general, ever since I've had a girlfriend. ;D

Not to be a jerk, but I thought it was pretty common knowledge that the term Lone Wolf was actually a descriptive term that has LONG been in the English language. I was about 9 years old and knew of the term when I first encountered the Chasm of Doom in a market in philadelphia.
BUt Helghast IS dever's.

Indeed. That's probably why Joe called his character Lone Wolf to start with.

Oh yeah, I knew that. I guess it does sound like that was what I was saying though... no I was just pointing out what the word meant, and also saying that in interviews it's been confirmed that a few of the Lone Wolf modes in gaming came from Joe Dever.

I have been a fan of Final Fantasy since number 1. I still have the original game, including the box, and it's in pristine condition. Along with Guantlet II.

It was ripped from LW gamebook and the one that have think to call the evil like that in this game is the one and only one Joe Dever himself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killzone ---Under game development EDIT: LOL, just notice that is a old thread. I think that everuone know that.
