The Jakan in book 5 is a different item than the cracked Jakan in book 6. I do not have the Jakan from book 5 giving a -2 CS in the contest, though. It would be a piece of cake to add that penalty in, of course.
But it seems somewhat unfair that on the section where it asks "Do you have a bow?" you would have to use the Jakan, since it's in your inventory, and you wouldn't have the chance to use a decent bow. And, actually, I'm okay with that, but where do I let the player know about this, so it doesn't catch them by complete surprise in the contest combat itself?

You have a point, it does seem a bit unfair thinking in retrospect

We can pretend that the Jakan found in book 5 is a particularly good Jakan - and while perhaps not intended for archery contests, is at least a good enough bow not to spoil one's aiming at targets.

Tonight I added a new feature where the game will allow you to restart from any book available, not just one of the three options (same book, beginning of series, or book 1) it did before.
As part of that minor change, I thought I'd add a major one, and incorporated long-term campaign saving/loading, which just means that if you die, or decide you'd like to restart, using saved campaign data, you can start back earlier than just the book you are on.
It's very useful for retrying for awards in "Prodigy" mode - e.g. you finish book 3, but didn't earn the award(s) you wanted to... You only find out about it as you start book 4, where a campaign save point is automatically generated. In the old system, if you wanted to restore from saved campaign data, it would only let you restart book 4 (since that's where you are!). However, with the new system, you'd be able to restore back to the beginning of book 3, with all the same gear, etc. that you had when you started it the first time. (You could also choose to go back to the beginning of book 2; basically, any book where you started having completed the previous book).
Of course, you'll only be able to use this feature with a new campaign started in the Magnakai release, since the Kai version simply tossed out the old saves...
P.S. this is one of the very last features I wanted to add, besides a few cosmetic tweaks, before the next release... (hint hint)

So, any release dates yet?
And when you release it, will it be the entire Kai and Magnakai series, or just books 1-6?

No - I never promise release dates. That being said, I literally have just a couple of minor tweaks, and one minor bug to squash, and it's ready.
It will just be books 1-6, but 7-12 should come WAY faster, since all of the internal code will be in place. It will just be a matter of converting the books. (And I've said all along - that's the easy part!)

how is having the Magnakai series available going to affect the Hall of Fame? Are you going to have separate HOFs for Kai and Magnakai?
edit: And if you do, will the Magnakai one only be updated once you've finished book 12?

I will indicate the completed status for each player under "series", so they will all appear on the same Hall of Fame. And yes, we'll have to wait until book 12 is done before we see anyone adding a "Magnakai (6-12)" to their HOF entry!

another feature in this release, I can't remember if I reported it or not ealier, but you can now only equip one item per round in battle. So, if you are doing hardcore, and use a twohanded weapon in the first round, you can switch to a onehanded weapon OR a shield in the next round, and the on the next round you can equip the other item. It evens things out a touch.

Okay, the last features are in, the bugs are squashed, and journal entries are in, and the medals are rocking sweet. I shall be doing some testing on virtual machines today and possibly tomorrow. And then, I will share the Magnakai release with you wonderful folks!

Man , I ran into an ugly bug last night at midnight - total crash of program when resuming a game that was saved in 1.5.4.
However, I have located the problem, and it's now fixed!
Testing resumed...
