I made notes of all the enemies I slain from Books1-12 by normal combat or by narrative described by the author( i.e. shooting people with arrows). Take a look at this and witness that Lone Wolf is a walking death machine...and I even hid from some enemies and evaded combat from others!
This is the cumulative total of enemies I have slain. This does not include the endless amount killed in Helgedad or at the end of Book 7.
7 x Giak......................1x Cave Worm 2 x Gourghaz.............4x Crypt Spawn 3x Harbour Thugs.....3x Street Thieves 1x Assassin Priest......6x Zombies 1x Helghast................1x Kraan 1x Crystal Frostwyrm..1x Kalkoth 2x Ice Barbarians........1x Akraa'Neonor 1x Bandit Warrior.........3x Elix 2x Tunnel Guards.........1x Bandit Horseman 1x Wounded Guard......1x Vassagonian Warrior 1x Horseman................1x Akataz 1x Guard.......................4x Vordak 34x Drakkar....................4x robbers 2x Backstabbers...........1x Pirate Berserker 1x Undead Summonation..1x Druid 1x Pirate........................1xDakomyd 1x Lekhor......................1x Giant Hictoraton 3x Zhada Beastmen.......1x Beastman Gailor 2x Thronehall Guards.....1x Rogue miner 1x Gnaag Helghast.........1x Anapheg 2x Rhagu........................1x Silverswamp Python 2x Zaaryx Ghouls............1x Psi Ghoul 2x Crocoryx.....................1x engineer 1x Ziran...........................1x Sniper 1x Hammerlander............1x (drakkarim garrison) 4x Aghtah........................3x Shadow Reavers 1x Argath.........................1x Plaak 1x Liganim........................1x Mind Reaper
Now for the big bosses..
Darklords...Zagarna, Haakon, Kraagenskul, Taktaal and Gnaag.
Lord Zhada, Barraka, Zakhan Kimah, Kezoor the Necromancer and the FIVE Villains of Sommerlund. Vonotar the Traitor and the Chaos Master.
I didn't get to kill Baron Shinzar from Book 10 because he was giving me a good slapping.

There we have it. Two new challenges to give your LW playing some extra spice: - Merciful Wolf, who spares as many lives as he can
- Butcher Wolf, who's out to exterminate all existing and potential evil all by himself

I don't think I've ever evaded a combat in my life*. Guess that makes me more like Butcher Wolf... (* Not as Lone Wolf, anyway. Grey Star is a somewhat different prospect.)

I am just wondering how you calculated it if the text did not say specifically how many you killed. I don't know if there were many sections like that in the first 12 books but I can think of at least one in the GM series where the text said something like "You fight your way through the crowd, slaying an enemy soldier with every swing of your weapon." I do see that you excluded the end of book 7, so would you make the same ruling for any other similar section?
On another note, has anyone ever tried to estimate just how many you took out when Helgedad was destroyed? That must have created quite the bureaucratic nightmare for whomever is in charge of sorting the dead.

This is a neat idea. In practice, I believe these two characters would be fairly similar... there are few fights that you can really avoid, and often if you don't kill an enemy, you will be in worse shape than if you do. Still, fascinating!

When playing Ten-Kai I try to evade if I can... less fights means less dice-rolling, and less math. A battle isn't a big deal when you are only playing one Kai Lord, but multiply that by ten and you could be talking about 80-100 dice rolls per combat for some of these!
There are obvious exceptions: for example, Merciful Wolf would never get the Kalte Firesphere. Merciful Wolf would die if he ran into the cutpurses in Book 6. It is interesting to think about.

monty,
I believe I used to do this, too - keep track of all the enemies I had taken out. My list got quite high, like yours did... then I hit Book 11.
There is a scene where Lone Wolf is made to look upon the faces of all the enemies he has slain. Having the whole list in front of me was a very humbling experience - I couldn't believe it - I had killed over a hundred! Certainly some were in self-defense, but not all. And there were probably some relative innocents in the list, like Halvorc and guards here and there who were "just doing their jobs."
It was then that I stopped my count - it was a life-changing experience!

I guess Lone Wolf should be thankful he did not have to look at all the enemies he killed in book 12. I don't know how many were in Helgedad when Lone Wolf launched his own brand of urban renewal but it must have been in the thousands. Then if you count those who were indirectly killed by Lone Wolf--all the thousands who must have died once the servants of the Darklords all started fighting each other for control--the number gets even more astronomical.

monty, It was then that I stopped my count - it was a life-changing experience! To ask straight away: Do you stopped counting or do you stopped killing innocent people? BTW: Merciful Wolf could get the Fire-Sphere but not the blue stone triangle on the 'firesphere' path. - I done the same mistake of mixing it up in another thread..

To ask straight away: Do you stopped counting or do you stopped killing innocent people? Counting, of course! And right, Merciful Wolf can't get a "free" BlueStone Triangle against the old barbarian men. You are scoring mega-points today, LongHairy(puppiescum)!

Still, fascinating! Not even close! I have been trying out various routes through the Kai series for Butcher wolf, and it is disturbing how many kills you can rack up. Likewise, it is amazing how many you can avoid as Merciful Wolf; when you are trying to beat the series with 10CS and 20END, you learn the easy routes quick, or die trying! Trust me, these kill totals can be very different indeed.

I am afraid I must defer to Darkash, the Best-Path Master of Kai! I will keep a closer eye out on my next quest with this in mind!

So we've got Darkash, the best path master, Sol with his deliverance and ,um, dogmastery, Peregrine has been assumed to have huntmastery... Yah, I thought a cool spin-off Gamebook would be: The Dog Star A new body appears in the skies of Magnamund... transforming Lone Wolf's mind into that of: a real wolf! Will Lone Wolf still be able to beat the Darklords, find the lorestones, AND stay away from the dog catchers? Find out in this exciting adventure!
