Hi All I have a question. I have been reading through the books for a few weeks now (really enjoying them, by the way!) and have a question.
I have just completed the Prisoner of Time, and now have all the lorestones, so how many new disciplines do I get when I start the next adventure, Masters of Darkness? By my reckoning it should be 2 (one for every lorestone, right?), but the rule book seems to indicate just one (and the improved discipline section only mentions the rank of Archmaster).
What have others done in this situation?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Allan, welcome to the forum. It's an understandable query, but you only get one new Discipline when going from Book 11 into Book 12; otherwise, you'd have a full set of Magnakai Disciplines when going up against the Darklords. And that wouldn't be fair--what kind of chance would they have?!

I know what you mean, and that makes perfect sense, but at the end of LW 11 it states that you have completed your quest... I don't know, I guess I would just like to have that one last lore circle!
As for what chance the darklords would have? Can they possibly be harder than that chaos dude? Talk about odds staked against you!?! I had to fight him about 10 times before I was able to make it past him (and I used the most liberal interpretations of the rules to max out my CS!)
Thanks for the reply though, I am really enjoying this site, I used to love LW as a kid and it is great to have the whole adventure here to relive.

Keep in mind, however, that you will recieve the final lore circle bonus once you complete Masters of Darkness. Basicallly, you will have all the disciplines once you start the GM quest.

Yeah, I realize that, it is that this seems like a big plot/rule hole in what otherwise is a TEXT well constructed series of books.
In fact, I think that so far this is the only real confusion that I have had with the books.

Technically speaking, LW should absorb the tenth Discipline from the Lorestone. Then again, maybe he was being eco-friendly and didn't want to drain them too quickly!

Hey NS
So what did you do when you played LW 12? Did you give yourself one or two disciplines?

I stuck with the rules, because that's what is explicitly stated. Of course, thematically, he might actually be a full Grand Master, but then you could claim that he also needs a measure of experience as well as the Lorestone-granted talent.

yeah, I thought of that as well, but it seems like it is a way of squaring a circle... I guess I should not complain though, I am sure the Darklords are quaking in their boots regardless of whether or not I have that final lore circle!

Well, not boots, really. They don't really wear clothing.

I'd really like to take the ninth Discipline after getting the first Lorestone in the book. Then you'd have access to the mega-heal ability if you have Curing, so you can use it to help you survive against the Chaos Master. Unfortunately, this too is against the rules. . .

Yeah, I have thought about that one too... There would appear to be a conflict in these two books between the way the idea of the books work (each book you get one and one only new discipline) and the plot line (you get one new discipline with each lorestone)... In the end though, I almost feel like I was trying to pick fly sh** out of the pepper bringing this up, as so far this would be the only (and minor) problem that I have found in the books
And Zipp, what do Darklords wear? ;D

Of course Darklords wear clothing. Take a look at any picture of them. Haakon wears a helm in Book 5, they all wear armour of some variety in the RPG...

Well, it was sort've a joke. Although I don't believe Gnaag or Zagarna are knwon for their clothing wearing skills.
Although those Darklords do love to accesorize! And makeup! Blush and eye shadow in the morning, essence de roses in the evening... and those big shiny helmets full of deadly sulphurus air.

I think Gnaag does wear a black robe, a la Sith Lords. Zagarna is never described in the gamebooks, but in the Legends, he is described as feeding things to his lower belly, which implies that he doesn't wear clothing.
