The Kai that have passed, rest their souls: Night Dancer CS: 23 Sun Dancer CS: 27 Swift Star CS: 24 You like using the words "dancer" and "swift" when creating a Kai Lord's name, isn't it? But, really, I share your sadness of loosing these proud Kai Lords

Black Cat,
Yes I love it! Actually, I generated these names using the special table in Book 21. Next time I might be more original, less redundant!

NEW UPDATE: KAI-TEAM-TEN Progress
My goal: to finish all 20 books without cheating. Completed: Shadow on the Sand
Kai Remaining: 4 Lost in Kalte: 3 Lost in Vassagonia: 3
Important Progress: Found Jewelled Mace Got Alether +2
House Rules: One Kai (Swift Dancer) drank a Lamspur Potion *during* combat to avoid dying. Have not needed to do this for any other Kai, so the strict interpretationalist will find the remaining 3 characters to be book-legal.
Tweaks: ***I allow myself to count all Keys as Special Items when the text does not specify. ***I allow myself to keep Weapon-Like-Special-Items in a Weapons-slot if desired. ***I allow myself unlimited Special Items until the Rule-of-Twelve appears (is this book 8?) ***I will allow Lone Wolf to do "Dual Weapons" when he becomes a Magnakai (but no "stacking" of WS with WM)... in this case, shield will grant no further bonus.
Survived: Brave Star, Storm Heart, Sun Friend, Survived with House Rules: Swift Dancer Died vs. Haakon: Bold Heart Plunged to Death over Lake Inrahim: Swift Blade, Wise Dancer
Best CS: Sun Friend (33) Worst CS: Brave Star (29)
NOTES and SPOILERS: Not much to tell. I had a real moral dilemna - should I buy TONS of Alether in section 154? I decided to go with the Aon ruling... every potion there suggested that you could buy doses EXCEPT for the Alether, so I only bought one. It was hard to see Bold Heart go down against Haakon later as a result, but it still seemed to be what was intended. It was also VERY rough rolling 9's for TWO Kai over "Lake" Inharim... instant death! I guess it makes up for not getting hit by the mast in Book 2. Hopefully Book 6 will be easier! I can't afford to lose any more of these guys!

Ouchie! Got another fella all the way to book 6, but was then brutally cut down and slaughtered by a hail of arrows when I stole a horse at the archery competition. I'd just won the competition, too, at a -12 disadvantage. About carrying a "Party Of Ten" through the books... how do you do it? Play one through each book at a time?

Scarecrow,
Here is how I play "Ten Kai"... I roll up ten characters. They are all legal-to-the-letter. For example, you often get some 12 or even 10 CS characters. Hopefully you also get some 18 or 19 CS characters, too. Character Generation takes lots of time - so does everything with ten. I suppose you could take just five if you like, or even three. I just like to up my chances!
Then I start reading with Book 1. Most of the time (and whenever I know the best paths) I send ALL of my ten characters the same way. When in doubt of which path is best, I send just 1 character down that path (a "scout") to see if it is safe. If it looks good, I assume that the rest have also taken this path. If it does not look good, that one Kai is on his own until his path meets up again with the others (it eventually will) or until he dies (if he made a fatal choice).
Many times, the path is not your choice, but determined by a random number. This can cause the group of ten to be split up into 2 or more parties who then adventure separately until their paths meet again. Whenever a roll is required in this way, I make 1 roll for each character as normal, keeping track of the results for each.
The combats take the longest. Let's say 7 Kai come across an opponent and must fight him. Then I have to finish 7 separate fights, one at a time.
The whole concept is basically the idea of playing several games in parallel. You save some time when reading through the story sections... and if you have some bad luck or make an unlucky choice, you can keep playing. Of course, that's for strict players like me who believe Lone Wolf has to be able to make it through all books without dying, or those who like the challenge.
I also admit that I do this with my computer. I have 1 text file per Kai. I have 1 Character Record (blank) that I use to make all the characters with. As I progress through the books, I find this to be the easiest way to keep track of EP, equipment (which sometimes differs), etc.

Scarecrow,
Another idea I had regarding a Team of Kai is called "Shared Fate." I have never tried this, but the idea is as follows:
At will, you can "bind the fate" of any Kai who are currently in one section of the book. For example, let's say you are facing the "falling mast" in Book 2. Let's say you have 5 Kai there. Here comes the mast! Before you make your roll, you declare "shared fate." Then you roll the die just once. Whatever roll you make counts for all the Kai - rather than rolling 5 times you roll just once. If you roll a "0" you ALL DIE. But if you roll well, you ALL LIVE!
A slightly more advanced example: let's say you have 5 Kai. They are going into Combat (no evasion) with a creature who has CS: 25. You declare "Shared Fate" for the combat. In this case, if one Kai succeeds in defeating the opponent, they all do. Which Kai should fight? The weakest (CS) should fight. The principle here: if the weakest can win, it is reasonable to assume that the rest could also triumph. At the end of the combat, deduct the same number of EP from every Kai and continue with the story.
The advantage to Shared Fate: less rolls (especially for Combat). The disadvantage: if you are unlucky, it will affect your entire team!
Thoughts on the Shared Fate method or on the Ten-Kai method?

The ten kai method always sounded interesting, but I never liked the way each fights each combat seperately, having to kill the same enemy ten times. It just didn't make as much story sense as did a party of ten being sent on these dangerous missions.
I would probably roll a die to see who has to go against the enemy. If more than one is present, then another kai can fight against this extra enemy. Against enemies like the Chaos Master, the enemy doesn't heal in between battles, meaning he might take down one or two kai, but will probably be weakened enough to fall by the third or fourth.

OK, so I have 3 Magnakai waiting to begin Book 6. After Scarecrow's run-in with the ambush, however, I realize that I still have 15 books left and 3 Magnakai no longer seem like enough at the rate I have been losing them. So they will await:
Reinforcements!
I am starting ten more Kai from Book 1. Whoever lives will join their kin in Book 6 and begin the next leg of the journey together.
For Sommerlund!

Keep me informed on the manner of deaths.
This may seem morbid, but I always find the ending to be the best part of any story. It is, after all, the finale of life.

Zipp,
You morbid guy! Are you kidding? My new team of Ten will have NO Deaths... they are THAT GOOD! But on the off-chance that I lose one-or-two, I will post all details here!
I rolled up 2 characters last night... Razor Hawk with a nice CS 16 (and Weaponskill w/ the Axe, nice Book1 char with a total CS of 20).
Timid Bear with a CS of 11(!) and an EP of 29 plus the Chainmail Waistcoat for a total of 33 EP!
I will probably roll the remaining 8 tonight and then off they go!

Ha Ha Ha. Well, why else would I go thorugh the books picking out all the deaths?
Not that I like dieing while playing, I generaly try to avoid this.

NEW UPDATE: KAI-TEAM-TEN Progress
Okay, so here is the scoop:
I have 4 Magna-Kai poised to enter Book 6. Even so, I feel that 4 isn't enough and that they may need some MAJOR help if they are to progress through all the books. In the meanwhile, I have created yet ten MORE kai who are starting out in Book 1 right now... the BETA team. I plan to be VERY conservative while playing these. I really want all of them to make it to Book 6 and I would at least like to have 6 survive so that I can enter the Magnakai series with ten Kai Masters.
I have played 10-Kai before, and I usually end up with only 1 Kai left by the time I reach Book 13. I will need many more since this book and the others in the Grandmaster Series are basically new territory to me! Wish me luck!
Noteworthy Kai:
Satan Kai: Rolled 3 6's in a row when I was rolling him up. His CS: 16, EP: 26, Gold: 6.
Paragon: CS: 19 and EP: 28 before modifiers.
Spirit Strike: CS: 18 (YES!) Before Mods.
Timid Bear: 11 CS and 29 EP b4 mods. 13 and 33 after.
Avatarus: CS: 23 EP: 30 (WOW, AWESOME! This was the tenth character I rolled up. Now you see the power of playing so many characters... one usually ends up awesome on odds alone!)
I rolled 3 Kai with VERY high CS scores. Many characters ended up with WS in the Axe. There were a couple of low-rollers, but these have good EP scores at least. I feel really good about this. Chaos-Master, watch out!
The Further Adventures soon to be posted...

Hey Sol... are you getting really, really, really sick of Book 1? ;D
I play my guys through 1 at a time, but so far I've lost about 10. 7 of those alone were in the first book. 7!
The others were:
- Squashed by the mast in book 2 - Killed by archers after stealing a horse at the tournament in book 6 - had my brain EATEN by a severed hand in book 7

Got my latest victim... uh, I mean hero... through Fire on the Water, still practising the One Man, One Quest method.
Thing is, I gave Rhygar the magic spear... only to find that relinquishing it spells instant death. I never knew that before. I thought Animal Kinship would save you either way - which it should. So I backtracked and selfishly took the magic spear off him. That count as cheating, you think?
