for another lame semi-off-topic thread: Where does everyones sign-in names come from?
if anyone's wondering "Gothmog" is a name from the Lord of the Rings I found when I made an attempt to learn Orcish. I think it means "great leader" or something.
On a related note: what were your NO Kai names?

"de Curry" is from Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. Reginald just goes well with it.
My current mask just sounded weird, so I went with it.

Hi Gothmog outspaced is the name of the B-sides and rarities album by Super Furry Animals, who just happen to be my preferred listening experience. It's a short and punchy handle, so I stole it for myself. Kai Name: I vaguely remember I visited a Lone Wolf website some years ago, when I was a complete newbie on the 'net, where they asked people to post in their Kai handles, and I posted Blue Monday. Which rather fits.

Okay, this one might weird a few people out, but I'm gonna throw it out there anyways.
Zipp Vulcity Dementia is the name of my inner subconcious, which appeared to me in a dream back when I was 12 or 13. It happens to be female. I can communicate with myself on the subconcious level through her. She also acts as an extension of my will. It was around the time that I met her that I became capable of sensing people's actions, predicting small occurences, and other such 6th sense abilities. It also explains why I used to choose sixth sense as my first discipline.
Beyond that, she is in nearly every science fiction story I write. You'll find her in the Silencer Series as well.
And no, I don't go around my house carrying crystals and chanting the names of the seven dieties, though I can do a pretty good tarot reading.

Black Cat is the name that I took when I started the NO series! When I read that I had to choose a name for my character, I didn't have any idea. Then, I looked at my cat (which is black, of course) and I got the illumination! Thinking about it now, it is a name that fits me well: although that my family is established in Canada since the middle of the 17th century, my skin is darker than usual, and people are often thinking that I'm Arabic, Italian, Spanish, Indian, Portugese or any other nationality that I'm not, and the cat is an animal that is swift, silent and that can see in the dark (just like a Kai Lord!). And so, this is why I'm called the Black Cat.

Oh, boy. You had to ask. Hope you're up for an explanation and a half. Well, I'll answer the simple one first. My Kai NO name was Nightblade, which was something that you couldn't come up with on the chart, but sounded cool to me, so I went with it. Only deaths were in 22 (once: didn't know the answer to a question near the end of the book), 24 (once: didn't correctly calculate the answer to a question in the book), 27; but not really! (book's answer to a question is impossible to figure out to get you to the right section), and 28 (once: got blown up in a random-number roll). Relenoir is the name of my first AD&D character that I played for a long time and started off at first level. He was a High Elven Ranger/Cleric of Mielikki, under 1st Ed. rules, and my favorite character to play in the best campaign I ever was in. Came up with the name on my own, which translates roughly to "dark or black knight" using French and one other language. I figured that out at a later point. I think when I stopped running him he was about level 10/10. Don't have his character sheet anymore. . . Originally, he fought with paired short swords, but he ended up with a bastard sword that looked like it was grown from a tree. It was a +5 intelligent sword of sharpness that could teleport and do all kinds of other cool stuff, like cut through a wall of force. Artifact level, obviously, and really nasty. I had so much fun in that game, which ran once a week for a couple of years.

Well, I try not to admit this too often... you see, I don't like people thinking my name is anything to do with Peregrin (Pippin) Took from Lord of the Rings. I've made the name Peregrine too much my own to want people looking at it and thinking, "Hey, another fanboy... at least he didn't go for 'Legolas'." Trouble is, that's exactly where it comes from. But in a very roundabout way... see, many years back, when I was but a little proto-geek sequestered from the great burgeoning Internet of the 90s by lack of access and decent computer, my sister and I got to use the 'net at my uncle's place. Well, I should say, she used it and I spectated. She was nice enough to let me sign up for an email address though. So I started going through a bunch of literary names, and after several overused starts from Eddings and then Tolkien, I suggested Peregrin. She spelt it as the bird, with the final e, and the name has stuck ever since. It's turned out to be appropriate on a remarkable number of levels. I'm so accustomed to the name that I'd probably answer to it in real life (at least, I know I would have once, when I was very active on a particular forum and didn't get out much [even by my standards!]). I also retain a certain fondness for young Master Took and wish he hadn't been reduced to comic relief in the LotR movies. But don't ever call me Pippin. Wow, for something I don't like to admit, I went on and on for a while there, didn't I? Well, as for the NO series, I believe I went for Moon Blade. Or Rune Blade maybe. I think both were possible on the random chart, but I picked one or the other (or both) myself.

Runestar is my current name... With my English collection finished, I am redoing the books trying to work with a "mage" Grandmaster: excepting for Grand Weaponmastery, which is a survival must, I try to focus in all the magic and lore connected disciplines (Kai Alchemy, Elder Magic, Herbalism, Astrology, Bardsmanship) over the more traditional ones... So I think the name would be appropiate and the Grandmaster a pinch original.

Oh, my sign in... andyr is the first name of a PC character in one of the longest running D&D (classical "old" one, not AD&D 1 or 2) I played (and in theory I am still playing), a human magic user with some elven blood from the Principality of Alhambra in Glantri (the Flamenco Swashbuckling Elves, if anyone remembers the Known World and the Gazetteers). Andyr Alhambra, Baron of Bluepine, Cryptomancer of the First Circle, is now a 10th Level Wizard and is camped in some cave of the Great Pass, right east of the Hagiarchy of Hule, waiting for me to return to Spain and my old D&D books in some vacation...

Wow, all this time I was thinking your name was Andy R., like an abbreviation. I like your explanation better! Actually, I never thought it had anything to do with Mr. Took. Because of the way that it was spelled, I just thought you really liked falcons. "That's nice. I like falcons," was about what I said to myself when I first saw you post. Wow, now that's deep! Talk about being in touch with your feminine side! You must get great advice from yourself about how to treat women well, no wonder you're engaged! ;D That's incredible Zipp! And very brave of you to admit that publicly on the forum, not just anybody would share something that personal that some idiots would just love to make fun of because they could never fathom such a thing. Very impressed! Not to mention the best pets ever and cool as all hell! (We have 3 cats!) Very neat to hear people talk about this. There is one name here on the forum that intrigues me the most, and I constantly wonder where it comes from, and how he thought of it. This person's forum ID is. . . Thomas Wolmer, of course!

Thanks for the commentary Rel. As for your name, I wondered whether it had anything to do with Black Knights. What it actually translates to in old french (correct me if I'm wrond) is Black Retainer, which is pretty cool.

lol, It doesn't take much pondering to figure out where my name comes from. Ronan was the first mate of the Green Sceptre in 'Fire on the Water'. He was supposed to meet with Lone Wolf in the harbour but was murdered by some thugs hired by vonotar. Lone Wolf finds his body under a staircase with his throat cut. Poor guy. Anyways, the reason I used is name was because he is the first NPC who dies because of something that Lone Wolf did. The first of many I should add.

I thought the first NPC was that poor little giak in the ruins... or a random wizard if you don't save him. Technically he doesn't become Banedon unless you save him!
