Vordak combat: Oops, in fixing the one for book 6, I broke it in other ways. This is now fixed, but I'm going to do a little more testing to make sure it's good across the board (ANY combat with modifiers) Nuts, it's all messed up now. It was a rather precariously devised bit of code anyway, very spaghetti like in its simplicity and tangled-ness. So, I am going to completely re-do that little section of code. Keep your fingers crossed!

Okay, it's completely re-written. It's way more logically laid out, has far more predictable outcomes, and isn't all tangled and twisted. I tested it with MANY different combat scenarios, including the ones mentioned in this thread and everything works as expected. So, that bug is fixed.
I'm reporting my own bug for my own reference later: In widescreen mode, the RNT selector box for RNT guiding is badly sized and/or aligned.

Dave,
One bug. In book 2, p. 314, if you have the Kai skill "Hunting," it forces you to eat the meal *before* choosing whether or not to eat the poisoned meal, and doesn't give you the option of eating the poisoned meal for that meal. I've seen it on both "Prodigy" and "By the book."

Dave, One bug. One (and I'm sorry I missed this @ the time), in book 2, when you're in the Inn traveling with the 5 other travelers in the coach and the coach driver has been slain, and the priest sends you the poisoned meal, it says "you have to eat a meal." It forces you to eat the meal *before* choosing whether or not to eat the poisoned meal, and doesn't give you the option of eating the poisoned meal for that meal. I'm playing through on "prodigy" mode, btw. I'll bet you anything you have the Hunting discipline. That discipline prevents you from eating the poisoned meal. Without Hunting, you would see the option to eat the meal that the innkeep brought you. These are indeed intentional changes to the basic functioning of what is normally an overpowered weapon. It's one of the few "downsides" to playing Prodigy style. (Hover mouse over the Sommerswerd in the Action chart for a full description of it's bonuses. Same for any special weapon.) The plus side, is that there are lots of other really cool weapons (anything with a special name, like Hermit's Warhammer, Giak Spear, etc.) with extra bonuses that are better for most battles. This is to encourage the use of more than just the Sommerswerd for most battles.

Did you pick Hunting as one of your Disciplines? If so, then that's why you don't get the option. If you didn't pick Hunting, then you'd have the option to eat the hot meal on the tray.
Those two weapon rules com from the Custom weapon rule set. A lot of weapons that don't normally get bonuses have some (Captain D'Val's sword, Fine Broadsword, etc.). Also, with that rule set you get to enjoy a +12 CS vs Darklords when using the Sommerswerd. It's just a home-brew variant- playing on By-the-Book difficulty, every rule is followed to the letter, and Hardcore uses home-brew variants to make the game more difficult. Prodigy makes the game a lot easier, but some elements are lowered just in the name of balance- mandating a bit more exploration to find the weapons you want.

EXTREMELY minor typo: on the "gameplay rules" page, "treat shields as weilded on arm"
edit: Also, and I'm not 100% sure on this, but shouldn't taking the Sommerswerd be a required action to proceed from page 79 in Book 2? Or is it required but doesn't show up as such?

I'm new to these books and software so I'm not sure if the following related issues are considered bugs or not but I thought I'd mention them. After I got the Sommerswerd I ended up fighting some zombie sailors who attacked our fleet (book 2, section 30). The text on the combat page says: You clamber up and unsheathe the Sommerswerd. Unfortunately I had no weapons equipped at this time since I had lost all of my previous weapons and being a newbie I did not realise that I had to manually equip the Sommerswerd. As expected I did not get the +8 CS bonus from using the Sommerswerd, however I also did not get given the -4 CS penalty from fighting bare-handed. So the following things might be considered bugs: - I had no weapons equipped so shouldn't the -4 CS unarmed penalty have applied (technically I had a weapon on me but I clearly wasn't using it as I got no combat bonuses or double damage)?
- I think it would be more newbie friendly if weapons and armour were automatically equipped into empty slots. IIRC the initial Axe from book 1 is automatically equipped. From reading the rules it looks like equipping and unequipping items is only part of the software not of the books themselves so it would be nice for it to be more transparent.
- Or alternately perhaps the Sommerswerd should be automatically used in section 30 (since by a strict reading it seems that you must use it for that fight).
I was also going to mention the weilded typo in the rules section but it looks like someone beat me to it. Anyway, thanks to everyone involved for the great books and software.

Well the book assumes that u are using sommerswerd but with prodigy rules sometimes its almost better to use the magical spear, so I think this is intentional :-)

well yes, but how does the ending of the book make any sense if you forgot the sun-sword in Durenor?

well yes, but how does the ending of the book make any sense if you forgot the sun-sword in Durenor? Aha I misunderstood, I thought u meant using the sommerswerd should be mandatory. I didnt know it is possible to advance into another section without taking it. That sure seems like a bug/or it should not let u finish the book (damn I forgot the sword... we have to go back! :-D)

Fixed : weilded/wielded typo
Fixed : You can no longer get past the Sommerswerd section without actually taking it. Nothing stops you from actually dropping it before you get to the end of the book - same with the Seal of Hammerdal. You have to have it at first, but you can really mess yourself up by dropping it.
Also fixed : Auto-equipping of the Sommerswerd when you pick it up. Those who didn't automatically equip it, sorry! It should've happended, but a logic bug caused it not to (it would have in certain situations...). This is now fixed, so it ALWAYS auto-equips the Sommerswerd when you pick it up. If you'd like to switch to a different weapon after that point, go right ahead!
Regarding having no weapon equipped at all: It is intentional not to penalize the player with a -4CS Unarmed penalty if they actually DO have a weapon, since it can easily spell doom if you are fighting a strong opponent. But you only gain bonuses from weapons if you actively equip them. (And yes, most of the type the equipping is fairly transparent - if you don't have a currently equipped weapon, when you pick one up, it automatically equips. All armor also automatically equips. Shields may not be equipped while wielding two handed weapons, and you are told as much if you try to use one in that situation. What you aren't told is that if you equip a two-handed weapon, you will automatically un-wield a Shield. You will then have to manually wield the Shield, after swiching to a one-handed weapon. Of course, if you choose the gameplay option "Treat Shields as weilded[sic] on arm", then you can always use a Shield, regarding of whether you're using one or two handed weapons.
Whew! that took longer than I thought it would...
EDIT: went back and gave the same auto-equip treatment to the Magic Spear, just to make sure it also works perfectly every time.

What you aren't told is that if you equip a two-handed weapon, you will automatically un-wield a Shield. You will then have to manually wield the Shield, after switching to a one-handed weapon. Ah that explains why my shield wasn't equipped, I guess it got unequipped when I picked up the magic spear and I didn't notice. I don't know whether it would be possible to run the shield auto-equip check every time your weapon changes rather than just on initial pickup, so as soon as you unequipped a 2H weapon your shield would be automatically re-equipped (I've only just finished book 4 at the moment so I don't know whether you ever end up with multiple types of shield which might complicate that idea). Also in book 4 section 350 the text says that you tuck the Dagger of Vashna into your belt, however the link to do that is green not red so you could end up not recording it. Though presumably that's nowhere near as important as not picking up the Sommerswerd so perhaps that's a deliberate decision. Thanks again.

In book 5 if you play the following sequence you end up with two backpacks listed at the bottom of the Lost Items list: 1 > 36 > 176 (click "stripped") > 69 (click "erase" in footnote).

good catches, Pike. Indeed, the Dagger should probably be Red, even though it's not nearly as critical as the Sommerswerd.
And I'll double check book 5 backpack business. I need to see if it's possible to get to section 69 from elsewhere. (It should just be a simple mod to make sure you can't get two backpacks in the lost items.)
