Probably tougher in books where Lone Wolf doesn't sleep... are there any like that? Maybe book 14?

Sleeping Saves- I used to do this myself, and it works out very nicely. Now, I just give myself 2 saves to use as I see fit throughout the books. Generally, I use one about halfway and another near the final fights (cause they can get tough).

I like the sleeping saves, it's kind of like the video games where you can save and sleep at the same place. I usually start a book over, unless I've already died in it. Then when I get to a certain point that I declare a 'save spot', I write the section # on the ch. sheet and mark what Items I have in inventory, so if I die after that, I come back to that point.

Hey everyone! I'm brand new to the board, but I've been reading LW since about 1990 when I was 10.
Here's how I deal with death: with every book I complete I give myself a 'freeroll' that I can save for a later time. When the dice don't go my way, I use one of my freerolls to re-roll, if I can't pull it out with the saved up freerolls I die and start all over from book one.
The most common times for use: the poisonous Kalkoth in book three and Zakhan Kimah.

Hi RJL! It is nice to meet you - welcome!
I used to allow a freeroll for myself, or as I called it a do-over. I would allow myself one for the whole series... it could be used whenever I died.
But I don't do that anymore. Now I just go straight through and always go back to Book 1 if I die!
Again, Welcome! Sol

And somehow you managed to beat everyone up till the Deathlord Ixia. Hey, I forget, how many made it to GM status?

Quite a few... maybe 10 or so in all. Of course, they pretty much died like flies!
Ha ha ha!
They'll be back for more.
For the record, one of them actually BEAT Ixy, but when...
The entire fortress collapsed with me in it, he bit the big one anyway! So close!

That's such a shame Sol. All those brave Kai Lords. . . I look forward to seeing a new book cover on your avatar soon! ~Relenoir, who knows Sol's going to do it eventually!

Sure Will! And yes, the Avatar will be a dead giveaway! I sorta like that method.

Funny how it worked out. When I first started catching up on threads, you already had the book 17 cover on there, so I missed the rest. I literally spent an afternoon and part of the next morning reading that thread! ;D

I've heard of several variations of death. "3 Chances" If you die, you lose a life. Just flip the page back to before you didn't die. You have 3 chances throughout the book. "Sleeping" The last time your character slept, was a "save". After that, if you die, you just had a bad dream. Go back to the last time you slept. "Book at a time" You die, you have to go back to the beginning of the book you were reading. Or the halfway mark. "Whole thing" You die, you have to start from book 1, at the ruins of the kai monastary. My preferred approach is to have a save at the end of each series. So I keep details of my character at the end of Books 5 and 12. These characters then provide me with the default character whenever I want to attempt the next series. I can make it through the Kai series most of the time - the instant death rolls in Books 2 and 4 are the only thing that can usually stop me. The Magnakai series is tougher, with Book 11 being the biggest obstacle. But any character that can get past that one has decent stats and is a good prospect for completing the GM series.

That's funny; I've learned to tune-out that sort of stuff so much! I watch T.V. sometimes, and can't remember what the last commercial was during the one after it!
