Vincent, I had no idea there was an epilogue but moon's post enlightened me. The "thin laugh" after having killed three Brotherhood members makes it harder to believe Vonotar is on the edge of redemption. Darn. I hope that moment or whatever thread really explains that prophecy. What could I say which is not a massive spoiler here?? Please consider that Joe Dever, and our team, have well considered all these issues. You'll have answers. The prophecy was not dropped at random.

Of course, I know it wasn't done without thought, I didn't mean to imply otherwise. It's more a statement of surprise and intrigue on my part, especially after missing that epilogue existed for this long.

As a point of interest, this very epilogue was one of the aspects of this book Joe imposed on us, we had no freedom regarding its presence or its content.

I’ve had a new thought rattling around in my brain. Anyone besides me remember this speech courtesy of Alyss from the end of The Curse of Naar? Thank you, Grand Master. I shall never forget what you have done for me. Had you not returned when you did I would have forfeited my freedom to the Dark God. And freedom, to me, is the most precious of things. For without freedom I would cease to be.Combined with the NOSM’s dream, and their clear unease at worlds being subjugated by Good (and it is a definite forcing, no matter what the end result), and that prophecy (yup, I’m still hung up on that too), I’m beginning to wonder ... is the end game to force the gods to leave Magnamund altogether? To take away the eternal worship of the deities and just ... let the people live? Whether they align with darkness or light, to just let them be? I always wondered what Alyss’s statement was getting at, since such a thing would have been unthinkable in Lone Wolf’s day. But a lot has changed ... Don't forget, the dream was framed by Shasarak "the Master of Dreams" specifically to sway the NOGM and trick him into helping our favorite Shianti villain. Even if Shasarak were presenting the struggle between Light and Dark sincerely, it would have been from his own (warped, jaded) point of view.
I've had DoEN for over a year, and I'm still blown away by the amount of lore and care that went into resolving and bringing together so many threads of the story. And my favorite part...DARKLORD VASHNA! I've been fascinated by the character ever since I saw the opening portrait for "The Darklords" chapter of the Magnamund Companion, and wondered when this omnipresent figure of menace would be brought into the tale. Even better, that Lone Wolf is taking him on as a personal nemesis.
