If you don't see a job listed in the Help Wanted board that fits your talents, or you have a great idea, please reply to this message with your suggestions. We welcome free thinkers.

One suggestion for the forum: If it's possible, limit the avatar size to something rather small. I believe most people have better uses for their time than to scroll past one-line posts that swell to half a page each due a huge avatars.
Actually, as far as I am concerned, avatars could be removed completely, but I'm an old fart who thinks that an 80x40 VT100 terminal is a perfect interface for internet communication, so people may not want to listen to me. :-)

Another suggestion is to remove the individual user post counts that are currently displayed. On other forums it usually elicits much needless posting. If the rank is also tied to post count, then it might be prudent to make it related to something else, such as time since registration.

I think that Cry Havoc is right it may couse needless troubles in future - its better to deal with that at start.

I don't think rank has any value if it is not tied to something that is an indicator of how active a member is. The moderators can easily delete irrelevant posts.
As far as avatars go, maybe a compromise between nothing and HUGE. 100x100 isn't very big, but it isn't too small either.

I'd limit avatars to 100x100 in size. I feel they are an important part of any forum, as they allow you to quickly identify who the poster was (text just doesn't stand out the same way), and even add a little character to each user.
As for the post count and rank, it's a tough issue. I've been on a BBS (remember those?) which died after the first "post race". How active a member is doesn't need to correspond with the number of posts they have. It could be an indicator of how often they log on, or how much of a contribution the moderators feel they make to the forum.

I don't think rank has any value if it is not tied to something that is an indicator of how active a member is. The moderators can easily delete irrelevant posts. As a moderator of official game forums and an active browser of many forums, I can say that things are much easier without any post counts or ratings based on post counts. All it really does is motivate users to make more needless posts, both off and on topic. So it's not just an easy matter of removing the blatantly irrelevant posts, and it just takes up server space and creates more work for the moderators. I'm hoping that those who will use these forums will show greater than average thoughtfulness and restraint, though.

Well if we can't find another way, then we will be forced to rely on the discretion of the members. My experience with boards has been that people aren't too bad overall. Of course, the members of those boards are all people that I know personally. I think that arbitrary decisions by the moderators isn't a very solid standard to use. For the sake of fairness, it would be better to choose something that is measureable to some degree.

I'd be happy to help in any feasible way. If you find I'm active on these boards I'd love to be considered as a moderator.

I think this is the correct place to put this. If not: whoops!
The following illustrators have worked on Joe Dever books and are currently MIA:
Paul Bonner (World of Lone Wolf 1-4) Rob Adams (Magnamund Companion) Richard Hooks (Magnamund Companion) Jane Laythingy (Magnamund Companion, calligraphy only) Peter Lyon (Magnamund Companion) Graham Round (Magnamund Companion)
Until we can contact these illustrators, we cannot use their work as part of Project Aon. If anyone has any information as to their whereabouts or web presence, please post on this forum and Project Aon will attempt to contact the illustrator(s) and get their permission. Thanks in advance.

Jane Laythingy (Magnamund Companion, calligraphy only)
Jane Lay_c_o_c_k (for some reason, the board seems to have altered a potentially 'rude' word to 'thingy', except it's being used as half a word so there should be no censorship. Oh well).

I guess this would be a suggestion in regards to the functionality of the forum. It currently tells us when there are new posts in a topic, but it would be more user friendly if it would also jump to the newest post (or at least mark it in some way) when we click on the topic. This isn't really a big deal, but I thought I would mention it as it might be a very easy to turn on this setting.

Jane Lay_c_o_c_k (for some reason, the board seems to have altered a potentially 'rude' word to 'thingy', except it's being used as half a word so there should be no censorship. Oh well). There is a function of the board that changes a certain sequence of letters like what you typed into another. It can't be avoided unless the change is removed. There might be a way of displaying the posts with the most recent on top, but I can't change anything from my position. Tom? Jon?

[ OK, separate thread created / Thomas ] Thanks to Thomas and the other Admin guy (Jon?) for creating the threads. We'll just have to wait and hope now.
