How about some in theme names for the member status? Something like:
Member - Kai Lord Moderator - Kai Master Global Moderator - Grand Master Admin - Supreme Master
Not really important, but it might add a bit of extra flavour to the board.

There are multiple levels of membership (for regular members) so we could do that, and follow the ranking from the Kai series for the membership. Good touch for Staff positions though. ;D

The reason I didn't mention anything for the membership is that usually, the specific 'rank titles' are linked to post counts. I've found that this means that some people will post just to get x number of posts and a new title, rather than post meaningful conversation.

Yeah... :- We have yet to discover a meaningful, yet equal way of judging member contributions. If anyone has any experience with these things, we would love some input, and even if you don't, suggestions would be appreciated.

Maybe I'm the only one who has Avatar troubles , but a chance to upload an Avatar from my computer instead of having to link to an address in the web would be appreciated. Would that be possible? [Old Ms. Edit admonished me that "troubles" would seem more appropriate ...]

Given the nature of the subject matter of this forum, I feel it very necessary to add a "SPOILER" tag.
Some quick snip of code that puts whatever is in the tag in white font w/white background, making it impossible to read unless highlighted. It should also have a box around it, with a small blurb ("Spoiler! Highlight to read"), similar to the quote function, to make it stand out.
Another forum I visit has this tag, and it's great.

We are limited by funding. This is a free board so there aren't too many special features, and I don't think that we really need to fork out money to do what the forum was intended for (and obviously already accomplished). I did a test and, as of now, the site can't use white letters (it's not an option for the posts and the site doesn't recognize the code).

Yeah... :- We have yet to discover a meaningful, yet equal way of judging member contributions. The answer is simple: Don't. Removing post counts and multiple levels of membership for regular members would be ideal. Just have all regular members be Kai Lords and leave it at that.

How about instead of removing post counts entirely, just have them visible in the profile, not next to the posts? I like seeing how many posts I have...

Removing the levels is easy.... POOF!!! It's already done!!!! Removing the posts is harder. That's just the way the board is arranged; I doubt that it can be easily altered.

Right; now all 5 (the number is hardcoded) member levels are called "Kai Lord". But they still exist, with the default(?) post count thresholds, so the number of stars will still show the level. Should we get rid of this too (by setting all thresholds ridiculously high)?
Getting rid of the post count is unfortunately not possible, and the same goes for the gender, another rather superfluous piece of information in the board display. (There are other dating services.)
ProBoards are obviously using some variation of YaBB to drive the boards, but they give board owners access only to a very limited subset of the configuration options.
Wytch-King: No, linked in Avatars is the only option.

I don't see the need for any indication of 'seniority' other than actual posts (Mods, Admins, etc). Having said that, I don't think that too many people would consider being a 'five star Kai Lord' or whatever is worth shouting about from the rooftops. If it's a simple matter, then yeah, ditch it. Otherwise, don't bother.

I'd like to make a suggestion. How about a webpage that lists all the recurring characters in the LW series? I could write it up for you guys, with a brief thumbnail sketch of each character followed by a list of the books they appear in. I could even type up seperate pages on how to meet certain characters in books where the meeting isn't assured (i.e.Banedon in Flight from the Dark, Vonotar in Fire on the Water, etc.). It would be complete up to the first 15 books in the series, and could be updated every time a new book is put online. (If Legacy of Vashna is about to come out, I could wait untill after that's put up.) So, how about it, moderators and administrators? If you like the idea just respond to this thread and let me know.

If The Skull of Agarash falls under the aegis of Project Aon, then the artist Cyril Julien needs to be added to the Illustrator Detectives thread.
TIA
