Well, one month has come and gone, and still no response from Osprey. I'm about to E-mail them regarding my correspondence, but it's looking increasingly like a dead lead. *sigh*

It would be nice if Osprey would at least bother to let you know whether they have in fact passed on the correspondence, as per the promise on their website. If they have and it is Mr Hook who is not responding, that would at least suggest he is not the person we are looking for. If he is the right guy it would only be polite to take the trouble to reply, even if just to tell us to sod off. Then we would know that we were definitely not going to be allowed to use his work and could revise our plans accordingly.

I have had nothing to post for a while since the other Janes still have failed to reply. If they were going to do so, I think it would have been done by now. So, what do we do now? I could e-mail the Janes again, but I don't know if that would work any better than the last time since they might see that it is the same guy bugging them.

Whoops! I meant to respond here sooner myself. I had a very polite response from a woman at Osprey who assured me that all correspondence is forwarded to the illustrators, and that I could send another copy if I wanted. Rather than pester Mr Hook, I said I'd leave it for a few weeks before trying again. LWH: I know what you mean. We're so darn close!, that's the annoying thing. :-( I'm not sure what else to suggest. Anyone got access to a decent calligraphic-style font I could use to recreate Ms Lay[thingy]'s contribution to TMC? That would mean we could release it even if we can't find her.

Oh, was she the calligrapher in that project? She's not even listed in the US version, which is what I believe I have.

Yeah, that's right. Her work only appears on two pages (pp. 4-5) of the entire book. Strange her not being credited, though. My Berkeley copy credits her on the (c) page (pp. 2-3). I've knocked up a potential replacement using a free font I found online that's vaguely reminiscent of her lettering; just waiting for some feedback from the list. If it's favourable, we'll probably go with that unless/until we contact Ms Layc0ck.

That may be the easiest solution to the problem. We may very well have found her, but if she won't reply to the e-mails we send, there is very little we can do about it. As nice as it would be to have Jane's permission, there are enough fonts out there that we can get by without it. However, if anyone wants to e-mail the assorted Janes again, the information is back a page or two. Just remember that we already heard back from the sports bra Jane and the Peace Corps. Jane, so leave them in peace. I still might do it but I don't know what good it would do since they already ignored my previous e-mail. Oh, and for Richard Hook, has anyone tried this address: www.chb.com/company-47251409.htmlI already checked the site for Jane without success.

I know I have a U.S. version, and she's credited in mine on page 2, fourth entry from the top under "Artists". And. . . Outspaced found a great alternative font to use in place of it, so if she never replies, it will really be her loss on having her name out there. Still would have been nice to keep it original, except for those yellow dots, eh Outspaced?

Oh wow, you know I spent twenty minutes looking over that page before I saw it. Huh. I guess it just gets lost in all of the copyright info.
It strikes me as funny that we actually have to get her permission for something that small.

Thanks for the info, jdyer! I'll make a note for future reference. To keep everyone informed, I had an "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" this morning from the site LWHistorian posted a couple of weeks back. I'll probably have to contact the main website postmaster now . . . but at least it explains why we hadn't had a response. That same site lists his agent's address in London, so it may be worth our while trying to contact Linden Artists. I'll look into it; hopefully they have an actual web presence, though it's seeming less and less likely. Edit: Nope, can't find any web presence, so I may have to snail-mail them. I'll keep everyone posted.

I've gotten lost with all the recent and not so recent breakthroughs. Could someone let us know who's still on the "look out" list?

FYI, everyone: Before following up the snail-mail route for Linden Artists Ltd (Richard Hook's agents), Jon asked me to try a direct E-mail to their account (now that we have accidentally come to know it), so that's what's happening. Since it is Saturday, I don't expect a reply until Monday at the earliest--if the E-mail actually gets through, that is. If that bounces back, or I haven't heard anything back from them in one week, I'll try the snail-mail option. This does seem to be the best chance of contacting Mr Hook at this time; if only we knew whether he was the right guy or not! Oh well.

Added a new guy to the search list: Peter Andrew Jones for his work on the Lone Wolf 10th Anniversary Calendar.
