Hi Dave Played through the first two books--died once--but found the following crashes: - When selecting the starting book, I clicked the Pic button to download the cover images. When I clicked left from the first image, the software crashed. This was the same on all 5 books. Also, if I clicked to the right too many times, the software crashed.
- On a new profile, if I click Options/Font Settings/Apply without changing any settings the software crashes.
Both of these might be related to the Profile not being properly created until the software has been exited and restarted (because if the software crashes at this point, a restart will tell you there are no saved profiles). I've got a couple of suggestions: - On the cover artwork bit, an option to use Peter Andrew Jones' covers for ALL books might be nice, though perhaps too much bother to code.
- I strongly suggest that the software auto-equip the Sommerswerd when it is gained. I didn't realise I wasn't using it until I was in combat with some undead on the Death Fleet--and you can't change Weapons mid-combat.
- More bizarrely, the software was applying a x0 damage modifier in Section 30--in other words, I couldn't cause the Zombie Crew any damage at all! And since I couldn't change Weapons mid-combat, the game became impossible and I had to commit suicide and restart Book 2. Unless the opponent is a Helghast, I can't see any rationale for not being able to damage undead with a normal Weapon; Lone Wolf does in plenty of future books (e.g. the Psi-ghoul in Zaaryx) so the x0 modifier should be reviewed. (I was using "By the Book" as the rules system, FYI.)
I got killed by a Kalkoth in Kalte ( sigh) so I'll have to restart that in a bit! Great software Dave. Hope this report is of some use to you. Edit by Moderator: Title of thread changed to reflect newer version.

Thank you for the detailed report! I shall look into it pronto!
Edit: Okay - looked into the first 2 issues, and I can't reproduce them at all. When I do exactly as you did, mine doesn't crash, but behaves as expected. Are you running a 64-bit version of windows? or perhaps a different OS than Vista/XP? Some specs could be helpful. CPU/RAM/OS, the usual. Thanks!
Oh yes, the profiles are created properly in memory, but not saved to disk until the program closes. But because it crashed instead, it never got to call the "save profiles" routine.

For the second group of suggestions:
1) You have the option of placing a check for each cover that you want to have marked as "favorite". So, if you have a certain artist you like, you can select only his covers. The option to "Show only Peter Andrew Jones' covers" vs. any other artist would be a bit cumbersome to implement. (This "favorite cover" info is stored on a per-profile basis.)
2) I shall make the change - I already have the Magic Spear automatically equip upon picking it up. No reason for the Sommerswerd not to do so as well.
3) My current system is to determine the various combat modifiers at the beginning of combat based on LW's current equipped weapons/armor/etc. That was the main motivation for not allowing the switching of weapons in combat - the system would not have known that suddenly, now you CAN kill the undead. I can now see a good way to allow for weapon switching, and to account for any different abilities/bonuses that the weapons give you. I still think that Undead enemies cannot be damaged by regular weapons, hence x0 damage (Unless the text varies - like Akraa Neonor in Book 3, if you have the Sommerswerd, it specifically says it is Undead. If not, it makes no mention of the fact - basically meaning that it isn't undead for the purposes of that combat.) However, allowing for weapon switching in mid-combat will alleviate the auto-death of starting a combat with an undead without a magical weapon equipped.

I have incorporated the changes I mentioned above into the source code and game files, but I shall wait for a couple of days to upload them, in case any more bugs are forthcoming.

Found a way to reproduce the bug in Fonts options crashing. It only happens in the opening screen. Will fix this soon. Still puzzled by the book covers crash, though. It obviously sounds like an out of range vector index error, but I constructed the code to stay within the valid range... I'll double check it.
Edit: Fixed the font options crash.

Hi Dave
I just worked it out. It came to me in a flash! I deleted the file "To add covers.txt" from "Seventh Sense\data\books\book1\covers" and now I cannot reproduce the crash with the covers for Book 1. The crash still occurs if I click left on Books 2+. So the text file definitely seems to be the problem!

Oh! I see what's happened! You installed the new version over the old version, and there are files that are left over from the old installation that are not a part of the new installation. If you were to install Seventh Sense to a new folder (or just delete the old one before installing to the same place), those files would not be there, and the program wouldn't crash. (That's why I couldn't reproduce it!) Since it's not up to the players to be aware of such an issue, I shall make sure to add a check that the program only tries to display image files, and not just any ol' file in the folder. What a funny bug! Glad we found it, though. Thanks for you help, outspaced! All bugs reported so far are officially squished. Edit: Hmph - I was already checking. Just had to move a single line of code to new place...

Hi, Dave, outspaced. I'd posted about the Font Settings bug in the beta thread without having read this. In case the bug's still not completely licked, here's some more info on it:
1. The CTD happens whether or not you make changes. Just clicking Apply causes it. 2. It happens whether or not you have already created a game profile. 3. It happens only when you're not in the midst of a game.
Guess this is where we should post new bugs and suggestions?
Suggestion: When scrolling down the Action Chart, the buttons at the top should remain visible. This means there would be effectively less screen real estate for the AC, but it would allow us to more quickly click from page to page, which I see as an overall good thing.

Ok, I didn't try Seventh Sense yet... sorry for that. (But the time *will* come!) For all I heard, it's well the most important release of this year next to the PA publication of book 20! But.. [...] I still think that Undead enemies cannot be damaged by regular weapons, hence x0 damage (Unless the text varies - like Akraa Neonor in Book 3, if you have the Sommerswerd, it specifically says it is Undead. If not, it makes no mention of the fact - basically meaning that it isn't undead for the purposes of that combat.) However, allowing for weapon switching in mid-combat will alleviate the auto-death of starting a combat with an undead without a magical weapon equipped. You *really* think so? I mean, you really expect Lone Wolf to die every time when, say, facing a Vordak in book 1 Come on, only Helghast have this special ability of immunity to normal weapons. Period.

Hi Dave, I finished all four books yesterday, and I appreciate your great work :-) but I spotted an error. In book 4, section 153, LW is fighting with bandit, and he fights unarmed for the first two turns. However, the combat ratio is being counted in following way: for first and second turn: (Base CS) + 2(Mindblast) - 4(unarmed) + 8(Sommerswerd)
for subsequent turns: (Base CS) + 2(Mindblast) + 2(Weaponskill) - 4(unarmed) + 8(Sommerswerd)
(I possessed Sommerswerd, had weaponskill with broadsword, played BY-THE-BOOK rules)

Honza, I'm not sure what your colorings in red mean. I just tested this section, and the combat worked correctly for me. However, I must add that I have made some changes to the combat code between your release and mine which may have affected the outcome.
Are you saying that it gave you the Sommerswerd bonus in the first 2 rounds, even though you were unarmed? And that it still gave you the unarmed penalty in the subsequent turns?

Hullo to everyone! I've been playing with Seventh and I really appreciate all the improves from the earlier version (which I played at nauseam )... It's really fantastic, thankx really Dave! I found also a couple of bugs: first the program crashed, as said in this thread, just clicking apply without changing anything in the font options, at the first try, and installed in a new folder; I use this system XP Professional SP3 with an Intel Core2 Duo E6750 with 2GB RAM and an NVidia GeForce 8600GT Another thing, when I was battling with the Vassagonian Captain in the watchtower in book 4, I lost the +1EP because of his Mindblast although I Had the Mindshield discipline...Apart from that it's good to play without cheating, I finished all the 4 books with just 13CS and 23EP Thanks again to you, and obviously to your wife's patience

Another thing, when I was battling with the Vassagonian Captain in the watchtower in book 4, I lost the +1EP because of his Mindblast although I Had the Mindshield discipline... Good catch! fixed now. (It was checking for Mindblast to protect you instead of Mindshield - Oops! )

Honza, I'm not sure what your colorings in red mean. I just tested this section, and the combat worked correctly for me. Are you saying that it gave you the Sommerswerd bonus in the first 2 rounds, even though you were unarmed? And that it still gave you the unarmed penalty in the subsequent turns? I tried the 1.4.3 version and it is now OK. So don't bother :-) However, I tried your special weapon bonus rules. In book 1, I exchange my Axe for Hermit's Warhammer, which hint states: "x1,5 damage vs. bandits". However, later on, when I fought against Burrowcrawler, it strangely give me +2 CS bonus against him EDIT: and in book 1 section 180, Hermit's Warhammer didn't give a bonus (I suppose these "soldiers" could be bandits...) EDIT2: and finally, has Prince Pelethar's Sword any special abilities? IMHO it should have some :-) EDIT3: one more error: book 2, sect. 106 Helghast fight, special weapons rules (Magical spear +3CS). During the fight, the Spear is treated as non-magical, therefore I'm not able to do any damage.

A bug I've found in both 1.4.2 and 1.4.3 : there's a problem with Healing and starvation damage (I'm using the "Healing heals everything" rule). If I get starvation damage (such as the poor meal in the ship in Book 2), Healing never cures it... but "other damage" is being decremented instead. So I eventually end up with something like "Combat : 0, Starvation : 2, Other : -2".
It doesn't change anything to gameplay, but it does look weird.
