Maybe I am in a whiney mood but been playing second book now 15years after first doing the books, and I am bugged. It's the magial spear, can't remember I had any trouble finding it before but now I have played the book over 10times and havent found it. Was it in book1? Hard to imagine since I finally cheated in the caves and tried all options but never found any way to pass without the spear. Sounds strange it would be impossible to pass without it and then place it (imho mind) obscure. Have tried to do the right "lonewolf" way and help and fight and explore everything but should I start doing bad things? Not really asking anyone to say the correct way, just like it feels like there is a path to go since you return to it no matter what and I follow it and still miss a must have item. Now when I get to the attack with the captain I just restart . Ah well, jsut wanted someoen elses opinion.

The Magic Spear is definitely in Book 2.
Minor ** SPOILER **
It depends which decisions you make on the route between Gorn Cove and Port Bax.
Hope it helps!

And you do not have to have it. A certain Kai Disciplin can also get you alive through Tarnalin.

And you do not have to have it. A certain Kai Disciplin can also get you alive through Tarnalin. Somebody should probably mention (might as well be me! ) that this will get you through the online Project Aon version, and some versions of the gamebook. Unfortunately, there was a mistake in some of the printed books that did not allow you to make it through with the Discipline Thomas mentioned because the section that would let you use it couldn't be reached, or something like that. Try the PA version here to be sure that the option is open to you.

I believe I was one of those that couldn't access it in my original book.
It always seemed a bit contradictory that Lone Wolf had to give away the spear. Although, there is an interview with Joe where he attests that he was trying to illustrate how Lone Wolf had to remember his quest in light even of the death of a companion.

As is your chainmail... if you got it.
The thing I really was disappointed about in many of the early books was the limited range of equipment you were offered or you found. I would have prefered a huge range of choices rather than a list of 6-8 things of which you are allowed to take 3-4 or whatever. The limits upon what you can carry and what things can't be carried together should have stopped any serious problems that might have caused... like leather armour plus chainmail etc etc.

Fount the way now but one thing bugged me,usually picking a kai-skill gives you an advantage,or punish you for not having it,but when getting the spear your actually punished for choosing one, since if you use it like you should you are pushed away from the spear(sorry didnt wanna give out a spoiler by explaining exactly)

Oh, you mean sixth sense. Yeah that really bugged the hell out of me too. But the book is still beatable. Here's a hint. Use animal kinship in the tunnels.

Don't know why but I always felt animal kinship was like the worst skill of them all, both kai and magnakai Maybe it was my route but it usually just gave me some fighting bonus on horse and stuff from what I remember, maybe magnakai gave more, only played up to book10 since I never got my hands on book11(have book12 though

I routinely leave Animal Control till last. It blows in my opinion and since LW has so many rangerish skills, you don't have to have them all to be a ranger!

Well, it's true that it is the least useful of any discipline, but if you want a second route through book 2, you'll need it.

Well I always have Weaponskill, Hunting and Healing, so I'm generally confident enough to reluctantly doom Lord-Lieutenant Rhygar and take on the "Why don't they have weaknesses" Helghast NS.
