Does anyone of you listen to music while playing or reading Lone Wolf (or Grey Star)? Not just any music, to clarify that, but music that you feel enhances the atmosphere? (A bit like a soundtrack does for a movie?) At first I didn't, but in the later years we started to use soundtrack music for our roleplaying sessions, and somehow it must have hopped over. The last two times I started on Lone Wolf's path, I caught myself playing the Dragonheart soundtrack. Worked quite well, actually. (Even though the tracks didn't always suit the events in the book; either I ignored it, or I just changed the track. No big hassle.) What about you? Any thoughts, opinions, embarrasing stories, or music you think fits the setting(s)? Maybe even "soundtrack plans" of your own for the Lone Wolf Rpg, as soon as it's fair game? The Wytch-King, humming Vader's Theme ...

I can't think of any reason why it should be particularly appropriate for Lone Wolf, but I got the album 'Behind the Sun' by Chicane at the same time I discovered Project Aon. Now whenever I play the music, I get reminded of stuff from the books!

I like experimenting with background music for RPG's as well. For fantasy games, we've often used stuff like the soundtracks to the LotR movies or Indiana Jones and other stuff by John Williams, or power-classics like Beethoven's Symphony #5, Bach's Tocatta and Fugue in D-minor, Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, Night on Bald Mountain by (starts with an "M", Russian or German maybe), Mozart's 5th, etc. Of course, for Star Wars, all the soundtracks are readily on hand; my wife and I used pieces from the movies for our wedding party's introductions at our reception!

The Conan the Barbarian score by Basil Poledouris is excellent, IMHO, better than the score for Star Wars, particularly for ambience for a fantasy RPG. Anvil of Crom is perhaps the finest down-'n'-dirty sword combat music ever penned! Theology / Civilisation is wonderful 'travelling' music for the great, wide, open steppes. I'd also rate the score for Hawk the Slayer, but then I am a slight 80s nerd and love all those cheesy synth sounds.

[...] Night on Bald Mountain by (starts with an "M", Russian or German maybe) [...] That would be Mussorgsky, I believe ... Of course, for Star Wars, all the soundtracks are readily on hand; my wife and I used pieces from the movies for our wedding party's introductions at our reception! Darn, why didn't you invite me? *grumble* Very cool! ;D Which pieces did you use, if I may be so curious? The Conan the Barbarian score by Basil Poledouris is excellent [...] Hmm, you're not the first to recommend that one ... Have to check that out some day ... The Wytch-King

Yeah, that's it. I knew it was Muss-something, but didn't want to butcher the name. Thanks! Permission granted! Anything to get out of scrubbing down the Darkling Room. . . Well, the flower girls and ring bearer came out to the Jawa Sandcrawler/Moisture Farm theme, my parents came out to Yoda's theme, my wife's mom and stepdad came out to Jedi Rocks: the remastered version of the song that Sy Snoodles and band played (we wanted them to come out to a chaotic and annoying sounding song to match their personalities ), her dad and stepmom came out to the Imperial March (Vader's song) at his request, the first pair of ushers and bridesmaids walked to the beginning of the Battle of Yavin, the next pair to the Activate the Droid Army theme, the third pair to the Mos Eisley Cantina Band song #1, the fourth pair to Duel of the Fates, my brother (the best man) and her sister (the maid of honor) came out to the Star Wars main title theme, and we came out to the Throne Room/Award Ceremony theme from the end of A New Hope. It was a lot of fun. The whole wedding wasn't Star Wars geared, just the entry music and tables. The tables were named after planets appearing in the movies instead of the typical numbering system. Of course, seating at the Alderaan table was cancelled due to an "intergalactic incident." ;D Probably true, but for a Star Wars RPG, nothing beats good old Star Wars. Shadows of the Empire soundtrack has some good pieces too, which you may be familiar with if you've played the video game.

I think my 'problem' is I'm too young. I didn't ever watch the SW movies at the cinema (was 5 in 1983) so they didn't have the life-altering effect on me that it did on people 5-10 years older than me. I kinda like the movies, but . . . meh, I guess I prefer the Indiana Jones trilogy. And The Lord of the Rings, of course. (The score for the LOTR films is truly superb.)

Well, the flower girls and [...] cancelled due to an "intergalactic incident." ;D *lol* Great, just great. (Rats, the celebration of the century, and I wasn't there! ) Probably true, but for a Star Wars RPG, nothing beats good old Star Wars. [Darn] right you are! By all means, do. It's by that same guy who did 'free willy 2' and 'robocop 3' <runs for cover>
Actually, the Conan score is _very_ good,I quite often play it at work.

You kids today don't appreciate the good movies, anymore! Today it's all this new-fangled 'special effects' and 'computer generation'. Why, back in the day, movie makers used MODEL ships! And we LIKED it! Took a lot more skill and gumption than these here 'puter programmers. Old, Nerethel

Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana"
It's the ultimate epic fantasy mood-setter!
Unless you got it running on max volume - you gotta go get it!

Is it just me, or is the Bee Gees' Stayin' Alive oddly appropriate?

Pfffffff! I expect you hate that new-fangled rock-'n'-roll jive music, as well. Go back to your rocking chair, grand-dad! Dang right! Todays music ain' got the same soul! I like that old time rock-n-roll. Ahem. Anyway, I AM old. As for older music, well yes. I don't like the 'rap music' and 'hip-hop'. Jive and funk are old enough for me, though. Incidentally, I was just fortunate enough to see Peter Frampton and Styx in concert. They rocked! And I'm sure you'll be saying that about 'Puff Daddy' or whatever other rap crap is popular to you kids these days when you're considered a fogey like me. Anyway, back to topic, I don't really imagine any certain music associated with Lone Wolf. When I read them or when I play RPGs, it's usually musicless (except for some groovy action music when I play Feng Shui). Nothing worse than having a player get distracted from the game by a song. I don't like the 'rap music' and 'hip-hop'. It isn't my cup of tea either. Did you get your complimentary pace maker and plastic heart valve? ;D Me? A kid? And Puff Daddy?? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! My taste in music has never been fashionable! I've always been a weirdo! And proud of it! When you can enjoy listening to songs sung in Welsh and Japanese--despite the fact that you can't speak either language--then you'll be a weirdo, my son. Puff Daddy?! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
