I just think that the old villian from the past routine is a good one, but only if played properly by the DM... a surviving Darklord would not be something that charactors are likely to run into in a random dungeon environment! I just think it would make an excellent sinister shadow in the background kind of charactor that after a long long time the PCs start to suspect, and of course no one would believe them as all the Darklords are dead... (and of course, their is the opposite, that all the DLs are dead and someone/thing is pretending to be a surviving Darklord, that would be a good plot line as well) I’m glad to have entertained, and yes, it does work fairly well in most circumstances. If you’re going to go with someone impersonating a DL, that’s also good--an especially powerful Xhagash might be a good choice, especially if it’s decided that it is a Darklord.

Hey GB, what do you mean? What darklord escaped? Is that Canon?
Can I ask a totally unrelated question? Why are some of the files folder icons on fire in the forum? (question from a newbee, I am sure)

No it's not canon, but it's fairly good fan fiction. Also, if a topic icon is on fire, that means it's a hot topic! NS.

Thanx for asking about the fires Allan, I did not want to show my total and complete ignorance. I too am a newbee, one week and counting, don't ask me my WPM. ( but I do believe I am in your debt, *honour and all*) Also to Dusk Fox (I didn't forget). Any way I have a question, if ALL the DLs were out using their new found freedom, why was Kraagenskul in Argazad, in the Darklands.* the bait is set and I cast the line... * I dislike fishing but maybe this will bring everyone back on track?...or not.....l

Kraagenskul, Taktaal and Gnaag were all at home. Gnaag was Archlord, Kraagenskul was his lieutenant and Taktaal was Kraagenskul's lieutenant. Maybe that's why.

Taktaal was home because Gnaag kept his nearest rival close (they had such a great relationship especially after LW kills him, but why wasn't Kraagenskul out and about? or am I just spliting hairs

If you look at the way a modern army works, you see a lot of senior generals at home while the more junior ones are leading the soldiers in the field. It is a fairly common misconception that generals actually lead troops, they command them, which is fundamentally different. (Although they would disagree with that, I think that thier is a fundamental difference) Which would explain why some were back... they are worried about strategic interests, not tactical ones that their field commanders were interested in.
Also, what were their respective roles... I know I am fairly new, but was not Taktaal in charge of something fairly specific (ie weapons production or something like that? SPOILER The giant battleship that LW destroys and the Slavemaster spring to mind))
Anyways, that would be some reasons why senior people would still be in the Darklands

PS Runeheart, I do not know what WPM means... words per minute is all I can think of!

WPM is words per minute. I am a shocking typist (index finger on each hand only type stuff). Your point is duly noted, similar to leaders and managers in a company. But if LW had not been forced to travel to Argazad then Kraagenskul would have slipped through the Transfuzor and all dying thing, wouldn't he. Besides how often do get to weild a DL weapon such as Helshezag.(you will all say Dagger of Vashna, but you didn't get it off him did you?)

I am not sure what you mean by slippint through the trasfuzor, but now that you mention it, did LW get them all by accident? Would one have slipped through his, as I think Dusk Fox said, "genocidal rampage?" that is a good point, which of course, leaves more room open to interpret the books with the posibilitiy of a DL surviving! (talk about weaving it so that the thread goes back on topic, eh?)

Allan, I need to ask a personal question? Have you read Book 12. Because it is a good book and I would not like to give away it's secrets too easily.

Sure have, I have read everything up to 16 (but only once) but feel free to give away stuff, its not like things are not well known here!
(and my mum calls me Allan, most people call me Al, I just never thought about it when I created my name!)

Sorry, Al, if I remember right, the book said that Helgadad was at it's most vulnerable, and the DLs survive fine in the caustic atmosphere of the Darklands. The book does state that the DLs were enjoying their new found freedom and leading personally in the field. and, I forgot the point I was going to make, quoting Dusk Fox's "genocidal rampage" has distracted me( in a good way, how often does anyone get the opportunity to kill three DLs).

If you can get your hands on any of the New Order Series there is a table at the front that might lend some inspiration. Be careful though my brother ended up with "swift dancer" then got "moon strider", so now I call him "moon walker" it's cruel I know.
