Sicne a lot of people on the site seem to like video games, I was just wondering how many are actually adicted to them? Also, has anyone seen any news recently on Advent Children (if you don't know what it is, here's a link, you should REALLY check it out, especially fans of FF7): www.square-enix.co.jp/dvd/ff7ac/Go to trailers and watch them all, especially trailer 3. And has anyone played the old Lone Wolf game?

Sicne a lot of people on the site seem to like video games, I was just wondering how many are actually adicted to them? Well I play more than a few videogames, but I have never experienced withdrawal symptoms! I put it down to my age - I am barely young enough (28) that computer (we're talking ZX81s here!) games have been around as long as I can remember so I have always viewed them as an alternative to the TV. Given that 99% of stuff on TV is pish, I play games quite often! I generally prefer playing games to sitting watching DVDs as well (I find it more involving and mentally stimulating), but I would hardly say that games, of any kind, rule my life. They're merely something to do when I'm not doing anything else. I can go for days on end without a joypad in my hands, or I might have the odd marathon session. To give you an idea of how heavy a "habit" I have, I buy perhaps one game a month. Also, now I have "grown-up responsibilities" I tend to seek out bargains instead of whatever's just come out. Game prices drop like a stone after a few months! I probably spend about £20 a month on games. That FFVII thing looks very cool - will it ever come out in English though? I'm thinking of getting FFX2, but haven't gotten round to it yet. And as for the old Lone Wolf game, I haven't actually tried it but I don't believe it's what anyone would call a classic. Something rattling around in the depths of my memory suggests there might be more than one such game - a platformy thing and a more adventure-oriented one. Can anyone clarify?

Well, when I said addicted, I more meant "regularly play" them. Me, I buy about two games a month now, generally one of them an older one from my past, or a remake.
I've been playing since I was 4. Started with Mario, and got into RPG's with the advent of Super Nintendo and FF4. Then became mostly an RPG gamer, playing everything from Chrono Trigger to Final Fantasy 7, from Baiten Kaitos (my most recent RPG purchase) to Kingdom Hearts.
Advent Children is scheduled for a release in the Summer in North America. I'm planning on getting a Chinese Translation a few days after it comes out in Japan (March 14th). It looks very very awesome. Much improvement over the "bleh" Spirits Within. This is pure gold.
I think there are two Lone Wolf games. But one was fan made, for the Never Winter Nights system, and it takes you through the first two or three adventures. The other game was set in a tower sort've like castle death, where you monotonously climb ladder after ladder and use your selected kai skills to beat the [nuts] out of unidentifiable pixels. Not even a favorite among the cult followers.

I play quite a few older games, generally "classic" compendiums and the odd download. I have thought about getting Neverwinter Nights just for the LW module. Have also enjoyed many classic console RPGS although I have never heard of Baiten Kaitos. I think perhaps you have some skill with Oriental languages which I lack? Spirits Within should have been amazing, but I didn't much care for the plot. I actually preferred Final Flight of the Osiris on the Animatrix DVD.

Re: Lone Wolf games, there were four official games that I'm aware of. Flight from the Dark, Fire on the Water and The Caverns of Kalte were all adapted for Spectrum 48K/C64. They had rather naff graphics, but were better than the rather dreadful Warlock of Firetop Mountain computer game for the 48K that probably only used about 8K of memory! A few years later in about 1990-1 Mirrorsoft released Lone Wolf: The Mirror of Death on Spectrum 128K/C128. That was more of a platform-y type adventure. The Lone Wolf NWN modules are very good, but sadly, the guy who wrote them, Altaris, was poached by Bioware to help write their Premium NWN modules, so I guess work on the LW-NWN mods has ceased. :-( He even visited this forum at one point!

I remember him! Yeah, he spun about his project for a bit and then dissapeared into the ether.
Like you said, Spirits Within was beautiful, but Advent Children has a plot and ties into the video games. It is looking up to be the first truly good video game movie adaptation.
If you want more info, I can spoilerize what I've dug up. It's been in the works for about a year and a half now, and I've been following it since then.

Yeah - the games I was thinking of were Flight From The Dark and Mirror of Death. Never played either but for some reason I can remember seeing a screenshot of FFTD in a magazine nearly 20 years ago. Why does my brain retain stuff like this and then I forget to take my dinner out of the oven? Knew about the NWN modules, but I knew I meant something more along the lines of official merchandise. As for Mirror I read about it much more recently on some website or other - these forums perhaps? Definitely DIDN'T know that FotW and TCoK had been given the 8-bit treatment - any ROMs kicking about?

Why does my brain retain stuff like this and then I forget to take my dinner out of the oven? That's simple! It's simply down to good long-term memory and crap short-term memory, a la the classic absent-minded genius. You and I are alike in that respect! NS.

I love video games, but find that when I play them other things suffer. At this point, I usually only play games that I can get through in no more than one day's worth of time, i.e. 24 hours, without spending a ton of time needing to search for special things. The last few games I've played have been ones I've beaten before, such as Metroid Prime, Zelda games for the N64, etc. I've been itching to play the original FF for my 8-bit since Zipp turned me on to Nuklear Power (great comics!) but have resisted the urge. I have several games that I haven't touched and have owned for over a year because I know my schoolwork will suffer, and I'd disappear from PA again for a while most likely. The only new game I've touched has been Metroid Prime 2, and I'm near the end, but I got there because I was sick for almost a week and barely moved from the couch. This was back in January; I don't think I've touched it since the Super Bowl.

I love video games, but I don't have a good computer to play the recent ones. The last game that I bought for my computer was Rainbow Six...2 months ago! As for the console games, I played a lot of "classics": Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Doom...My favorite games are definitively the Legend of Zelda series: I have all of them, except the 2 multiplayer games and the one for the GameCube. I even just finished the Minish Cap last week. I always thought that if a console game was made about Lone Wolf, it would look like the Zelda games. Well, both characters have already green clothes and are collecting magical stones with the help of a special sword that shoots beams. They also rescue a girl that is almost used as a sacrifice to revive an evil guy and they both fight a guy named Ganon... ;D EDIT: I just noticed that they release a new trailer for the upcoming game on GC. If only the LWO trailer had the same quality...

Ah I fell out of the loop with computer games long ago, though I still keep up on what's coming out. So sad... I missed Half Life 2...
I am proud to say that I spend much of my free time playing console games, and will probably always play them. My favorite game is probably Chrono Trigger, though some of the Final Fantasys do come close, especially 7 and 10.
Rel, did you know that they just rereleased the first final fantasy with updated graphics for the gameboy advance? It also comes with final fantasy 2, never before released in America. And I'm glad you enjoy the comic. You should play again, I think you'll be surprised how fast it goes, and also how much time you are able to spend on other things. I've had to learn to balance my life with my gaming, otherwise I would never get anything done. Wasn't hard, though.
Yes, the new Zelda game does look good, doesn't it? They have also completely updated wind waker with the new style of graphics and are releasing it to those who pre-order, starting April First (no foolin!)

I heard about FFI, but don't have a GB Advance. I'm hoping they'll release it on a console platform. I still need to get a new copy of the original--haven't replaced that one yet. April 1 re-release of Windwaker with new graphics? Makes me want to play it again. . . I liked the Master Quest re-release of Ocarina a lot. Will have to preoreder, thanks!

It also comes with two new dungeons that were taken out of the original because they would've boosted the game to a more adult level (and as we all know Wind Waker was the first Zelda specifically aimed at a young audience).
Defenitely a smart buy.
On a side note, are DVD players in Europe Region Free? If not, what region are they?
